On February 8, 2022, the 41st Council of the Engineering Academy of Japan approved the alumni of our school, a graduate of the 1984 from the former Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), now a professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Prof. Li Jingfeng as a foreign academician of the Engineering Academy of Japan.

The Engineering Academy of Japan (EAJ) was established in 1987. EAJ represents Japan in the International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences. Leaders and leading experts in academia, industry and governments in Japan who have achieved outstanding contributions to global engineering and technological sciences are nominated by the member nominating committee and approved by the Board of Directors to be EAJ members. There are currently 828 academicians, including 47 foreign academicians. The Japanese Academy of Engineering joined the Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CAETS) in 1990 and has an important international influence.
Li Jingfeng received a bachelor's degree in metal materials and heat treatment from the Second Department of Mechanical Engineering in former HUST in 1984, and a doctorate degree from Tohoku University, Japan in 1991. From 1992 to 2002, he served as an assistant professor and associate professor in the school. He returned to China in 2002 and has been a professor at Tsinghua University in the School of Materials Science and Engineering, leading a research group in the state key laboratory of new ceramics and fine processing, with research interests on electro-functional ceramics and their microfabrication technologies. Prof. Li has published 500+ SCI-indexed papers (H-citation index 78) and 35 patents and three books. He has received several awards including young researcher award from the Japan Institute of Metals, outstanding young scientist grant from NSF of China, Changjiang distinguished professorship, Journal of the American Ceramic Society Loyalty Award. Prof. Li is now an Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Materiomics and editorial committee members for several international journals including Journal of Asian Ceramic Societies and NPG Asia Materials.
