About the Author

Prof. Lu Xing, Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Professor Lu Xing received his PhD from Peking University in 2004 and he is currently a Full Professor in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He has been engaged in the basic research and application development of new carbon materials, and achieved a series of influential results in the structure and performance regulation of metal-doped carbon molecules and their assemblies and bioenergy applications, which have been highly evaluated by renowned scholars such as Nobel Laureate Harold W. Kroto and American Chemical Society President Luis Echegoyen. He was awarded the 12th Ambassador Award from Chinese Embassy in Japan and the 7th "Osawa Award", Fullerenes and Nanotubes Research Society of Japan.

Prof. Takeshi Akasaka, University of Tsukuba

Professor Akasaka was born in Kyoto, Japan, and received his PhD from the University of Tsukuba in 1979. He retired from Tsukuba University in 2013 and served as an Adjunct Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology since then. His main research interest is the chemical synthesis of novel carbon nanomaterials. He has published more than 300 papers, of which more than 100 have been published in top chemistry journals such as JACS and Angew and received the commendation for Science and Technology by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award and the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work.

Prof. Zdeněk Slanina, Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Professor Zdeněk Slanina was born in the former Czechoslovakia and received his PhD from the former Slovak Academy of Sciences in 1971, where he worked until 1991. He has been actively involved in the research of fullerene computational chemistry since the discovery of fullerenes, creating several models that have been widely adopted by his peers. He has worked at several renowned research institutions such as Hokkaido University, Japan, the Max Planck Institute, Germany, the University of Arizona, USA, the Institute of Molecular Research, Japan, the University of Tsukuba, Japan and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China.

Handbook of Fullerene Science and Technology

The reference book Handbook of Fullerene Science and Technology was completed by Prof. Lu Xing, Prof. Zdeněk Slanina and Prof. Takeshi Akasaka over four years. It focuses on fullerenes, metallofullerenes and related carbon materials such as nanotubes and graphene. As a scientific and technical handbook, this book provides a systematic overview of the concepts and research highlights of carbon nanoscience. It gives a comprehensive illustration of the key topics in Fullerene such as historical background, synthetic methods, recent advances and future applications with extensive reference content. Written by renowned experts with extensive research experience, the book serves as an important reference for MSc students, PhD students and researchers alike, and is a systematic and comprehensive overview and summary of the scientific and technological achievements of fullerenes.
