Center for Crystalline Materials and Micro/Nano Devices

Dec 16, 2021

The Center for Crystalline Materials and Micro/Nano Devices (CMMD) was established in 2020, belonging to the School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the State Key Laboratory of Material Processing and Die & Mould Technology in Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST). Currently the center includes 9 professors and 6 associate professors, including 2 NSFC-funded Distinguished Young Scholar and 8 National High-Level Young Talents. Based on the frontiers of Material Science, the team has developed various pioneering research directions which are interrelated and support each other, forming a scientific research team focusing on a series of future oriented key topics in optoelectronics, energy, catalysis and intelligence. The center has complete experimental instruments and platforms for material preparation, structure characterization, device processing and performance test.

Main research directions:

1) Optoelectronic crystalline materials and micro/nano devices: Developing micro/nano photodetectors and photoelectric storage devices based on 2D crystalline materials and promoting the potential applications of 2D photodetectors in practical areas such as industrial automatic control and photometry, and national defense fields such as missile guidance, infrared imaging and infrared remote sensing.

2) Energy storage materials and in-situ devices: developing new high-energy density secondary battery electrode materials with characteristics and advantages in micro/nano devices and multi-scale in-situ experimental methodologies.

3) Carbon nanomaterials and devices: by focusing on 0D, 1D and 2D carbon materials, we developed various new carbon nano/micro structures and their composites starting from unique structural design and controllable preparation.

4) Functional supramolecular materials: based on the dynamics of supramolecular chemistry, we are committed to self-assembly and functionalization at the organic-inorganic surface interface and realize the intelligent response, catalysis applications in water treatment, photoelectric conversion, etc.
